Excursion No. 2: Llucmajor – Camí de Gràcia – Camí Vell de Gràcia – Santuari de Gràcia – Llucmajor
Duration: 2 h 20 min – 4.6 km – Easy, but with a total ascent of about 200 m
This is an idyllic excursion. The route climbs Puig de Randa – or Monte de Randa – towards the impressive Santuari de Gràcia along a shaded forest path that offers incomparable panoramic views across much of the island: the Pla de Llevant, the vast Bay of Palma, Llucmajor and its region, its coastline, and on clear days, the magical Isla de Cabrera floating on a blue horizon.
The excursion begins in front of the Secondary School of Llucmajor, and follows the Camí de Gràcia for about 20 minutes before turning left to continue along the Camí Vell de Gràcia, towards the foot of the Randa mountain.
Here the gentle ascent begins, among some houses, farms and almond fields.
The path briefly descends slightly after the houses, and we will pass the Camí des Putxets on the left. Shortly afterwards, we will see a large sign with information for hikers indicating the start of the climb to the monastery, via the Camí de Ses Voltes.
The higher we go, the more spectacular the views become. We will see the great Bay of Palma, the southern coast of Llucmajor, the Pla de Llevant, and the Isla de Cabrera. The mountains of Felanitx, with the Santuari de Sant Salvador and the Castell de Santuiri, are also visible.
We’ll pass a small grotto with a statue of the Virgin (1 h 10 min), and a few minutes later arrive at the Santuari de Gràcia (1 h 15 min), with its wide entrance, sheltered beneath an enormous and impressive rocky cliff on the mountain.
Here the terrain levels out, and we can enjoy a pleasant break – perhaps with a picnic – or simply take some time to admire the magnificent panoramic views from this wonderful strategic point more than 350 metres above sea level.
The return is via the same path, descending the mountain to the Camí de Gràcia, turning right to arrive again at the starting point next to the school after 2 h 20 min of walking.
