Jaume III (1315-1349)

The last king of Mallorca and his destiny in Llucmajor

Jaume III, born in 1315, was the last monarch of the Kingdom of Mallorca, created by the House of Aragon for its secondary branches. During his reign, he fought to maintain the kingdom’s independence against the aspirations of his Aragonese cousins.

His life culminated dramatically in Llucmajor, where he met his death in the famous battle of October 25, 1349. Defeated by Peter IV of Aragon, his fall marked the end of an era for Mallorca.

His memory is kept alive in Llucmajor, not only as a historical figure but as an integral part of the town’s history. His figure embodies the struggle for autonomy and dignity for an island kingdom.
