Sculptural ensemble made of bronze; it depicts Prince Jaume (the future Jaume IV), son of King Jaume III, holding the lifeless body of his father and a flag of the ancient Kingdom of Mallorca.
The Battle of Llucmajor is the most important battle in the history of the Kingdom of Mallorca. It took place on 25 October 1349 in Llucmajor, in the place known since then as es Camp de sa Batalla (the battlefield). In this battle, the troops of Peter IV of Aragon defeated those of James III of Mallorca. After the defeat, Peter IV incorporated the Kingdom of Mallorca into the Crown of Aragon.
James III died and James IV was imprisoned. The latter was released and attempted to regain the kingdom, but failed miserably. He died in Soria in 1375.
Queen Violante de Vilaragut and her sister Isabel were taken prisoner along with Jaume. Jaume was imprisoned in the castle of Xátiva and in Barcelona until 1362, when he was released by Jaume de Santcliment.
