Carnaval

The dates of this festival, between February and March, depend on the annual religious calendar and take place before Lent.

It begins with Dijous Llarder (Fat Thursday) and ends with Ash Wednesday and the Burial of the Sardine.

In the town of Llucmajor, there is a float parade, while in s’Arenal another parade is held together with the municipality of Palma. In both, imagination and color combine in a joyful and lively spectacle.

During Lent, the Jaia Corema is traditionally made. This figure, crafted from paper or other materials, depicts an old woman with seven legs under her skirt. She may also be represented with seven teeth and a fish in her hand. Each Friday during the abstinence period, one leg is removed, marking the remaining time until the end according to the number of legs left.
